What makes Montana unique among the Rocky Mountain States is that its northern rim is the gateway to Glacier National Park. Its twin to the north is Canada’s Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Park. And that makes it possible to take in the some of the best wilderness areas of two nations in one trip.

    The Wild Horses of the Pryor Mountains

    The Pryor Mountains south of Billings, Montana, are home to some of the most unique horses in the world. DNA testing shows that these horses are closely related to the horses brought to the New World by Spanish explorers of the early 19th century.

    Montana Buzzard Day

    The swallows return to Capistrano and the Vultures return to Hinckley like clockwork every year. But the excitement of those events is more than matched by the yearly return of the Buzzards to Makoshika (ma-KO-shi-ka) State Park in Glendive, Montana.

    Getting There Can Be More Than Half The Fun

    When most people think of Montana, two places come immediately to mind: Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks. That's only natural, since "Montana" is Spanish for "mountains" and rumor has it there are a few mountains in each of those parks.

    "Oro y Plata" - y Dinosaurs

    While Latin is used in the mottos of many U.S. states, Montana is the only one to have its motto in Spanish, "Oro y Plata" (Gold and Silver). And, after my recent visit to this magnificent state, I have added, "y Dinosaurs".
